Rethinking Resolutions

We all start the year ready to go and create new habits and ways of living that truly serve us.  But do you know that by February, 80% of New Year’s resolutions have already been abandoned?

Coaching is all about helping people make true and lasting change.  In my twenty years of coaching I’ve learned that resolutions are not the easiest or best way to do this.  That’s because resolutions are too often based on deprivation, force, and self-flagellation.  This approach creates a huge amount of stress and generally ends with less than stellar results.

Fortunately, there is a better way, one based on gratitude, intention and compassion. That’s right, approaching your goals with gratitude actually increases your self-control and determination. Research shows that compassion, intention and gratitude provide you with long-term motivation and future vision that helps you make the choices that support your future and build stronger relationships along the way.  This approach is not only sustainable, it’s significantly healthier for mind-body-spirit and less stressful compared to the old paradigm of force.

To get started, think about the future you want.  What would you like to experience during 2018?  Imagine how grateful you will feel living your desires.

Write your intentions for the year in a journal or notebook while connecting to the pleasure and joy you’ll experience on your journey to making your dreams a reality. Really let yourself experience the gratitude and celebration of your intentions.

If you would like, begin each day with an intention as well.  It can be as simple as stating your intention out loud upon waking or writing it down in a journal.

Be compassionate with yourself.  Share your intentions with supportive friends or family as well as all the little successes along the way and celebrate who you are now and who you are becoming.

You are a miracle and your presence matters more than you will ever know.  Give yourself gifts that feed your soul daily and your year will blossom in more magical ways than you can even imagine.

So what do you want to create for 2018?  Post below and share.

You sharing will help in making your dreams a reality and I would love to hear what you will manifest in 2018!

After a life coaching session with Eve, I felt uplifted, lighter and free-er. I left with a sense of direction that I didn’t have before. The personal breakthroughs that occurred spilled over into my career and I also came away with some very practical, hands on business guidance. I was so moved by the entire process of Eve’s life coaching, that I decided to become a life coach myself and take the training she is going to provide this fall.
The methods Eve used were such a success with me that I want to share them with others. I am deeply grateful and look forward to my new adventure in life coaching with great excitement.
